Poster unveiled for North Queensferry boat festival

  • Gordon Scobie of the Boat Club receives the winning poster from student Jamie Ramsay
  • The winning poster, seen here aboard traditional herring drifer the Reaper

Although North Queensferry Boat Club's Traditional Boat festival isn't until September, the club is already making big plans to promote the event, and has turned to Carnegie College in Dunfermline to produce a poster for the regatta.

Gordon Scobie, Chairman of North Queensferry Boat Club (NQBC) approached Caron Harvey-Ogilvie, Lecturer/Curriculum Leader in Graphic Design/Visual Communications/ Photography to set up a live brief for students in HND Visual Communicationat the college to design a promotional poster to cover the event.

With seven final entries to choose from, Gordon found it difficult to pick one but in the end opted for the poster designed by Jamie Ramsay, 25, from Oakley.

Gordon explained why he chose Jamie's poster:The colour and layout instantly communicated to me that this is an event for the whole family, with traditional boats, music, clowns, craft fairs and Sea Kayaks to name but a few of the day's events."

Jamie recently presented Gordon with his poster onboard The Reaper, a traditional herring drifter that sailed down from its home in Anstruther at the Scottish Fisheries Museum to North Queensferry. The Reaper will also be one of the attractions at the Festival in September.
