North Queensferry boat festival wins praise in parliament

The organisers of North Queensferry’s Boat and Harbour Festival have rightly been receiving plaudits for another successful event this year – with praise even reaching the Scottish Parliament.

On Thursday 6th October local MSP Helen Eadie posted a motion praising the organisers: “*S4M-01027 Helen Eadie: Applause for North Queensferry Boat Club Volunteers—That the Parliament congratulates North Queensferry Boat Club on hosting its second Boat and Harbour Festival on 28 August 2011; applauds the efforts of the members of the boat club, led by Gordon Scobie, to organise what was considered such a successful event despite the strong winds; hopes that the volunteers who have created such a special event in the west of Fife will go from strength to strength and that the skills of boatbuilding and repair will thrive under what it sees as a superb team of volunteers.

“Recognises the contribution of the fishermen and the Scottish Fisheries Museum in teaching the public about their work through making a 100-year-old herring drifter accessible to the general public, and applauds the boat club for reviving the traditional skiff race between North and South Queensferry and making it an annual event in future.”

Here Here to NQ Boat Club for organising such a great event.

When we have a great amenity such as this to come and sail, moterboat and now row why is Fife Council (the Landlords of the Harbour area) so negative and miserable towards the club even threatening to evict the club at one stage. The council gets good money from the club in rent. The Council is not allowing the club to have a temporary toilet facility,which gives new meaning to not having a pot to piss in!

Fife council would do well to remember that they are servants of the people and not the other way round. They should be helping the club forward and people to enjoy this great facility.

As part of the Reaper Crew I'd like to say thank you for inviting us to NQ. The Reaper attends a number of events during the summer months all in an effort to increase the awareness & interest in the fishing industry of a hundred years ago. It's exhilerating & very satisfying to welcome all the visitors on board & it's apparent that all the events we attend take a huge amount of planning & funding - so thank you to all the organisers for dedicating so much time & energy to developing all the fun festivals around the country & a big thank you to all who attend - Best wishes from the Reaper Crew!
