North Queensferry boat festival all set for launch
7 SeptemberA great day of fun on and around the water comes to North Queensferry on Saturday 11th September when the Boat Club host their inaugural Boat Show from 12 noon.
Traditional boats and vessels will be sailing in from all around the Forth; there's a children's mini-fair, bouncy castle, and face-painting. Guest singers and musicians will perform throughout the afternoon and there's a craft marquee where a very early Christmas present could be picked up.
Gordon Scobie, Chair of North Queensferry Boat Club says: "This festival is about relating to the sea and the boats, the past and into the future. This show embodies the spirit of Fife's Year of Culture and the funding from Celebrating Fife 2010 supports this. I am excited at seeing the different vessels gathering in North Queensferry harbour".
"We shall miss our friends from the Herring Drifter the "Reaper" who have withdrawn from the festival and the rest of her summer and autumn programme due to severe engine failure. However, there is no doubt that the rest of the boats attending will create a spectacular backdrop to this family friendly event which I hope goes on to become part of Fife's annual calendar."
This festival will have something for everyone. Stand well back and admire the talents and skills of a chainsaw sculptor using logs to carve fantastic figures and animals, life-like and mythical. Or try your hand at traditional crafts such as spinning, weaving or blacksmithing from Govan's own GalGael. And if you get peckish then the famous Arbroath Smokies will be on sale and ready to satisfy those hunger pangs.
Coastal Community boats from ports and communities all around the Firth of Forth will take part in races to promote the developing community rowing project. This project supports communities in building their own boats or skiffs and organises a programme of racing and community integration.
North Queensferry Boat Club is taking the lead in this venture uniting the community around the rowing project with a variety of teams including; men only, women only, mixed gender, retired teams and youth teams. Working with North Queensferry Heritage Trust the aim is to revive the historic North and South Queensferry races next year.
Entry to the Boat Festival is £4 for adults and £2 concessions. A shuttle bus is running from Deep Sea World overflow car park.
