Royal visit as light goes on for North Queensferry's lighthouse
22 JuneNorth Queensferry has enjoyed a royal visit, as Princess Anne came to the town to light Scotland's smallest lighthouse after its restoration.
Watched by local school children, the Princess climbed the 24 steps built by Robert Louis Stevenson's father in 1817 to guide the ferry boats into North Queensferry, and lit the wick of an oil lamp in front of the reflector in the hexagonal lamp room.
The North Queensferry Heritage Trust is trying to establish the town between the bridges as a tourist destination and the re-lighting of the lamp is all part of the effort.
The Trust has employed two guides to show people around the lamp. Visitors, like the Princess, can try their hand at lighting the wick.
